1861 Census, Elizabeth Wheatley
« on: Wednesday 27 June 07 20:24 BST (UK) »
I seem to be going around in ever decreasing circles on this one. The question is where is Elizabeth Wheatley in the 1861 Census?

Elizabeth was born in Lincoln in 1839 to Samuel & Caroline Wheatley.
In 1841 and 1851 Census she is at home in Lincoln with her family at Hawkins Court &  22 Flaxen Gate respectively.

In 1871 she can be found keeping house for her father at 14 Silvester Street, Sculcoates, Yorkshire. Here she gives her name as Elizabeth Frances Wheatley but this is the only time that a second Christian name is given.

So where is she in 1861?

Any possible leads or sightings would be great fully received.

Many thanks Newfy, thats spot on.  ;D

No wonder I was unable to find it, Ancestry had transcribed the name as WHERLEY, one of the few alternatives I had not tried and another to add to the alt. names collection.

Once again thanks for the help, much appreciated.

just leave the surname out altogether, and base the search on DoB and PoB - look for unusual names and Roberts your mums brothers  :)

ermmm no, don't think we have a Robert in the family, not unless mum was keeping a secret  8)

Seriously though I went through all the usual permutations and no doubt saw the name Wherley and dismissed it as being too far out at the time. Just goes to show you cant dismiss anything in this game.
