Bad news, I'm afraid.

I searched Gt Haseley PRs between 1790 and 1810. As you would probably expect, there are lots of Smith baptisms - but no Robert.

I had a quick look at some neighbouring parishes to Gt Haseley.

It's not exactly the right time but there's a Robert baptised in Stoke Talmage. Details-

Jan 6 1809 Robert & Richard, twin sons of Wm & Alice of Pyrton parish.

Hi Jill
Yes it is a real pain Robert Married in Great Haseley had all his children there and is buried there all his children have the names of the Smiths back to 1695 but i can not pin down who his Parents are he was my 3 times Great Grandfather.
I will have to start looking in Great Milton now for another dead end. With Thanks Alan.

Hi Jill
Me again i have just been looking at the map Pyrton is only about 5 miles away from Gt Haseley, are there anymore children listed for William in Pyrton just a thought he could have been baptised later on than what he says on censuses as to his birth date Regards Alan.

Just to save you time - I'd already checked Great Milton baptisms for Robert, without any luck.

I've just seen your latest post. I've found Robert & Diana's marriage in Gt Haseley in 1827 and found the baptisms for their first children - twins called William & John. I'd say that the fact that one of them is called William and the fact that twins run in the family would point to the baptism in Stoke Talmage to William & Alice being the right one. I'd like to bet that John is probably the name of Diana's father!

The other children baptised to William & Alice in Stoke Talmage are:

June 27 1784  John
Oct 9 1785  Nanny
Feb 27 1787 Thomas
Mar 22 1789  Alice
Aug 1 1790  Martha
Aug 25 1794 Joseph & James, twin sons
Oct 12 1795 James
Dec 11 1796  William
July 4 1798  Robert
Aug 14 1799 Hannah
Oct 31 1800  Phoebe
Apr 20 1802  Lucy
May 1 1803  Isaac
Nov 10 1805  Susanna
Jan 6 1809  Robert & Richard, twin sons (first mention of 'Pyrton parish')

Phew! There are so many children, I was beginning to think that there might be 2 William & Alice Smiths having children at the same time, but they all seem to fit in timewise!!  :o

There are no burials to be found in Stoke Talmage for the first James & Robert - perhaps they were buried in Pyrton.Neither is there any sign of William & Alice's marriage there.

Hi Jill
I think that we have got him, he probably gave the wrong age when he married Diana he would have still been classed as a minor under 21 yrs old when he married i have a feeling that Roberts son Thomas had twins also i will have to check the birth records for St Mary Magdaline Oxford he had 2 Daughters Jane and Sarah born 1862.
Jill you are a Gem Alan.

Hi Jill me again could you please if you have the time do me a list of Robert and Diana's childrens baptisms, there is another child in my list for this couple born before Marr named Priscilla another reason for marrying at a young age.
Found the Marr for William/Alice 1783 Pyrton does not give a date on IGI.
                         Many Thanks Alan.

Hi,

Robert Smith married Diana Wade in Great Haseley on Nov 5 1827 ( she made her mark) Witnesses: Richard Shrimpton ( a regular witness ) & John Allen.

Their children:

(Jan 15 1826 Priscilla Wade, baseborn daughter of Diana)
July 13 1828  William & John, sons of Robert, a labourer & Diana
Sep 12 1830 Joseph
Nov 18 1832  Thomas
July 12 1835  James
Apr 2 1837  Sarah
Nov 3 1839  Mary
Dec 26 1841  Henry
Apr 12 1846  Charles
Jan 21 1849  Richard

Not quite so many this time!

William Smith married Alice Ravening in Pyrton on Dec 4 1783 - both made their mark. Witnesses: Joseph Wiggins ( a regular witness ) & Benjamin Theadwell.

Incidentally, those children of theirs who died WERE buried in Pyrton - March 6 1796 James , 3 months and July 9 1798 Robert, a new born infant.

Jill
