Thanks Barbara, I have just had a look at the IGI and some children which may be theirs are
Mary 1823 or 1826
Rosina 1825
Emily Sarah 1829
Alfred 1831 or 1837
Edwin 1834
William 1840

All these children  were christened West Malling except Mary 1823 Aylsesford and James was in the Malling Union workhouse in 1851 so they may have been living in West Malling or Malling in 1841

I am not sure is this first family is correct because I don't have a James.

Thanks

1841 HO107/460/2 fol.24 p/19 Skinners Lane, West Malling
SKINNER
James 50 Hop Planter
Martha 45
Mary 15
Rosina 15
Emily 12
Edwin 7
Alfred 4
Wyniam 1 (male - not seen William spelled that way before!)

Hope this is the right family, I know in the 1841 census ages were rounded down to nearest 5 but it's a bit out for James.

Thanks Barbara

I think you are right in the second family with James being two young.  It looks like there may have been two James and Marthas.

The IGI have all these children with parents listed as James Skinner and Martha Binskin  - there are also three other children born between 1814 & 1819 Aylesford who all died and James and Martha married 1819 according to the IGI.

So the first post with James around 1828 may be the right family.  Thanks for your help and I will need to do some more delving.

That's ok, I was looking for a Martha to go with him, unless she had died by 1841. There is only one other Martha about same age but she's married to a Robert.   I suppose the James aged 13 could be a grandson...
