Baptismal record
« on: Saturday 30 June 07 08:10 BST (UK) »
What information can I expect from a baptismal record at St Wilfrid's  Grappehall?  That seems to have been the only church in Grappenhall in the time frame I am researching.   John Booth was born either 1815 or 1816 according to his ages shown on the Cheshire censuses.  Supposedly his father's name was Thomas Booth and his mother was Mary __.

So far,  I am batting zero trying to find any information on this Booth family.  So I really hope this brick wall comes tumbling down soon.

Thanks,  Bettye  in California  USA

The 1812 Rose's Act required parish incumbents to use specially printed registers, with baptisms, marriages and burials in separate books. These printed registers are much easier to read than earlier registers. The Act required detailed information to be recorded for baptisms and marriages. In addition to the date of the baptism and the child's name, Rose's Act also required the inclusion of the names of the parents, their abode, the father's quality, trade or profession, and the name of the clergyman. Marriage entries had to show the names of the bride and groom, their parishes, date of the marriage, names and signatures or marks of the bride and groom, whether married by banns or licence, names and signatures of marks or the witnesses. If one or both parties to the marriage was a minor, the entry should also indicate the fact that the consent of parents or guardians had been given. Burials show Name, Abode, when Buried, Age, and by Whom the Ceremony was Performed.

Frances,   Thank you for the posting of the marriage of James Booth to Mary Harrop.  It will probably connect once I learn the names of the children of Thomas Booth and Mary__.
For some reason,  I did not get a notice that you had posted the response to my query.
Thus I apologize for the long delay in acknowledging it.

perhaps I should be looking at the parish records in Warrington for this Booth line instead of Grappenhall.

Regards,  Bettye
