Daniel Herbert Vittery Passenger Lists

Can anyone please do a look up on the passenger lists

Vittery is a very unusual name.  I have a Daniel Herbert Vittery b. 1880 Totnes area (Brixham) Devon who crops up in 1891 at the British Orphan Asylum in Slough.  He then appears on a passenger list for California and also for Washington, Seattle.

Can anyone provide any more information ?

Was he perhaps one of those Orphan emigrants ?

His brother Samuel Ralph Vittery born about 1882 was also in the Orphan Asylum with him.

Thank you for all of your replies. Much more than I ever expected.
What are the Sands Directories - are they like electoral rolls or street directories ?
If so does this mean Daniel lived in Australia but later became a citizen of
Canada ?
If I look at the entries on findmypast - do you know what information they are likely to contain ?
Looks like his brother Samuel was also a seaman.

Thanks ever so - if you are able to give me any pointers where to go next I'd really appreciate it.
I still don't know who were the parents of Daniel & Sam - looks like I'll have to get the birth certificates. I could not find Daniel on the 1881 even though he was born in 1880.

He married in England, right?  Daniel Herbert Vittery, marriage in 1906, to Elizabeth Lucella Stevens and a possible son, Daniel Herbert C Vittery born later that same year show up on freebmd, and then if you look here:

You'll see the deaths of Daniel Herbert (which you've already been given), Daniel Herbert C and Elizabeth Lucille Vittery.  I think Ancestry also shows Elizabeth coming into NY, but it doesn't show on EI so it's probably post-1924.

Probably he and Samuel were both working as seamen, thus maybe why he's not showing on 1901, and then he was based in London for a time, married Elizabeth there, moved to Sydney and then finally to Canada:

What can I say!
I am just speechless.
Violet sounded like such a wonderful lady what a terrible shame she has just passed away.
It sounds as if Daniel who may have had an unhappy childhood himself abandoned to such a spartan instritution later had a very happy family life.  I am really pleased to hear that he did.
The name Vittery is so rare they are definately in my tree.  We had a Daniel Vittery higher up in the tree very likely he is descended from him.  I must now establish the direct link.

Are there any Canadian family tree web sites where I can post my interest hoping that I can make contact with the Vittery family in Canada ?
