Richard HARRY of St Kew married Philippa ???
« on: Monday 02 July 07 12:25 BST (UK) »
The 1851 Census Highway Village St Kew has Philippa Harry widow aged 76 together with Susanna Hicks 43.I think she was nee Thomas and had married Richard Harry 29.4.1800 St Kew.Richard died 1849 aged 72 and Philippa died after the Census.

There was also a Richard Harry bC1777 St Breock who married Philippa Tremaine 1.2.1801 St Merryn. She died 1851 aged 78 St Breock. They had several children St Merryn and St Breock.

I would like to check that I am not mixing up the two Richard Harry and the respective Philippas.
I would appreciate evidence to clarify this.

Good morning Deb and thank you. That is exactly my problem.
In view of the rounding of the 1841 Census ages,I am having difficulty in determining which one is which.D.O.B would help.
One Richard who is my line and s/o Matthew and Elizabeth Harry,I think was baptised 4.1.1777?? and buried 16.12.1849 aged 72.Unless mistaken he married Philippa Thomas 29.4.1800 St Kew.Assuming she is the correct one,in 1851 she was at Highway Village St Kew a grocer aged 76.Susanna Hicks was still with her as a house servant aged 43.

Another Richard Harry was buried St Breock 1845 aged 68.He had married 1.2.1801 St Merryn,Philippa Tremaine,b1774 St Minver, buried St Breock 22.11.1851.Still unsure as to who is who.Any help appreciated. ???

Hi Laz

Okay , so you are of the Philippa THOMAS line !
There has to be a clue in the census 1851 onward ...what are the children's names of Philippa Thomas and Richard Harry

Hello Deb.I don't think Philippa(Thomas) and Richard Harry had any children.I have their respective Wills.
Matthew and Elizabeth Harry married 16.6.1763 St Kew.They had children John 1766,Elizabeth 1768,William 1771 (my direct line),Elizabeth 2 1774,Matthew 1776 and Richard 1778 St Kew according to microfilm, the latter being the one I am trying to sort out.

The other family of Richard Harry and Philippa Tremain had children Jane 1801,Peggy1803,William1806,Elizabeth 1808,Nancy 1811,Richard 1814/15,William ???1825.
First Richard was a tailor,second a shoemaker.
Hope I am explaining my dilemma.
Thanks.Your help greatly appreciated.

Hi Rex

I am thinking that the 1841 census sorts it out ....

RIchard #1 the tailor has a wife Philippa and doesn't seem to have kids, living St Kew

Richard #2 the shoemaker has a wife Philippa and a least one child William and possibly a grandchild , William living with them.

The fact that both Philippa's died in the 1850's presents the challenge....

According to BMD these are the death's of both Philippa's...

Philippa HARRY  Bodmin mar Q 1853 vol 5c pg 78
Philippa HARRY  St Columb  Dec q 1851 vol 9 pg 55

maybe only ordering the death certs will give you their ages and who is who ...One Philippa who died may have had her death registered by Susanna Hicks ...keeping fingers crossed
the other's death may have been registered by one of her children

I will search further  ;D

Hi again Rex

Have you seen this in 1861:

Richd HARRY head mar 46 CORDWAINER  b St Breock (maybe s/o Richard # 2 Shoemaker, following in his dad's footsteps!!!)
Mary ann Wife mar 43 b St Breock
Children:
Thomas, George, PHILIPPA, Sarah, Francis, Ann ...all b St Breock

I feel certain that your Richard did marry Philippa THOMAS and not TREMAINE ..
what do you think ???

Rex

On IGI there is a christening of Philippa THOMAS...
31 Dec 1774 St Kew
parents; William Thomas and Susannah....

If This Philipppa is the one that died in 1853 (Bodmin) ...the death cert should state that she was approx 79.

hi again, Rex

You stated that your Richard HARRY s/o Elizabeth and Matthew was buried  16/12/1849 aged 72 , which would make him born circa 1777...
there is an IGI extracted record which may be YOUR Richard:

4 jan 1778 St Kew Cornwall
Parents:
Matthew Harry and Elizabeth
