Placename help
« on: Wednesday 04 July 07 11:06 BST (UK) »

Hi

Does anyone recognise this place of birth from the 1851 England census HO107/1942/657/2, third line down? It looks like Glywllach, but I can't find anything on the various gazetteers that comes close. It may be the name of a farm/household, rather than a village/place.

Fourth line down is Abersenny, transcribed as Aberwing. Margaret Powell and her daughter Gwenllian are from Abersenny/Devynnock who have moved to Walcot, Bath. Unfortunately in the next census, Margaret just has Breconshire as her place of birth.

Cheers
