Baptism look up please
« on: Wednesday 04 July 07 16:30 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Would someone mind looking for the baptism of Josiah Allen born about 1836 in Battle, please.
I have a marriage certificate fathers name looks like Walter Allen. I have a possible link on the 1841 Census, but would like something a bit more conclusive.

thank you

Hi missmuddle

Have you tried the website www.familyhistoryonline.co.uk there are a lot of Sussex baptisms on there, in fact Sussex is pretty well covered and you might just be lucky  :)

There is a small charge per download but it is a worthwhile site for pre 1837 Sussex records - burials are well covered too.

Thank you I didn't know about this site, I don't mind paying for downloads, it's a lot cheaper than travelling miles.

Absolutely and as I say we are lucky in Sussex to have very good coverage.  Good luck and I hope you find Josiah.  If he's not there come back as I'm sure someone will either have access to PRs or be going to East Sussex Record Offices soon.

Kerry :)
