Kingston upon Hull expert required.
« on: Thursday 05 July 07 21:42 BST (UK) »
Could someone please help determine where my Great Aunt,  Ursula Brough 1887-1931 may be buried in Hull.  She died 30 Nov in The Infirmary Anlaby Road. At the time of her death her home was 3 Ethel Grove, Barnsley Street, Hull.

Any help appreciated and acknowledged.

Regards

Hi Quiller

As Barnsley Street is off Holderness Road towards the east of the city, I think the most obvious place would be Hedon Road cemetery, next door to the prison.

I'm just being curious now, but it sounds as though you have her death cert., does it actually say The Infirmary on Anlaby Road?

Hi Bee

Thanks for the reply, yes it says The Infirmary 188 Analaby Road. My G/aunt died of TB.

Are the records for Hedon Road Cemetery on line anywhere ?

Hi Quiller.
The records aren't on-line but the east yorkshire family history society have transcribed the MI's and you can buy the booklets through their web site.

Might be worth putting a request on here, someone might already have them, just in case they are buried elsewhere.

Hi,

You might want to contact Hull City Archives (email: city.archives@hullcc.gov.uk ) as they have the burial registers for:

Western (old), Spring Bank West  1861 – present
Western (new), Chanterlands Ave  1889 – present
Hedon Road (old)     1875 – present
Hedon Road (new)     1897 – present
Northern Cemetery, Chanterlands Ave  1915 – present
Eastern Cemetery, Preston Road   1931 – present
General Cemetery, Spring Bank West  1847 – 1972

Quiller, my great grandfather was buried in Hedon Rd cemetery in 1912. I know my dad's cousin went to see the grave in the 1930s but there is no trace of it now and neither can the city archives shed any light. Just wanted to set your expectations.

Even if there is no headstone, the city archives should be able to tell you where this person is buried (they'll supply you with a map if you ask for one) and who else is buried in the same plot.
