Jane Hannah
« on: Saturday 07 July 07 10:10 BST (UK) »
Jane Hannah was originally married to William Kerr back in Scotland, she and William wed in 1863 in Troqueer Kircudbrightshire. Sadly William died in 1875 from typhoid .Looks as if Jane decided on starting a new life for her and her children, it is possible that she remarried any way all records of her disappear in Scotland . On a gravestone in Terregles parish church it states that she died in 1919 in Manitoba at a place called Wharfdale anyone recognise Stoop

Hi Stoop,

With a few more details we may be able to find her on the 1911 census.  Do you know about when she was born?  What were her childrens names and birth years, if you know them.  Do you know when she immigrated?  Or when do the records stop in Scotland.

Hope we can all help,

Nancy

Firstly thank you for your rapid response. Jane was born or christianed on the 13/11/1836 at Troqueer ,a farmers daughter. William and Jane had three boys and one girl  James was born 11/11 1864, Thomas on the 8/8/1866 George on the 14/11/1870 and Janet was born on the20/11/1868. The last record I have found was the census of 1871, where they were resident at Newbridge terregles ,Kircudbrightshire. William Kerr her husband died in 1875 and nothing from then until the inscription on the Kerr tombstone at Terregles. Hoping this assists regards Stoop.

Hi atth20, fascinating stuff , confusing too. I did not expect info relating to census material. Firstly Thomas was the father of Jane, David Kerr was by 1881 the farmer at Newbridge his wife was Janet, so it looks like Thomas was a shepherd in Parton parish and James still lived with his mother ,no sign of his sister Janet I would hope that she had married by 1881. David was the brother of deceased William therefore he was the uncle of Thomas. Why sometime after 1891 did Jane Hannah decide to emigrate to Canada? Thanks for your help regards Stoop.

Hi Janice, I am following up your suggestions bearing in mind info that Ihave received relating to 1891 census that indicates Jane Hannah was still in Scotland in 1891 interested to find out when she left and who did she go with regards Stoop.
