I thankyou for that,  what I am trying to prove , or not , as the case maybe,   two gentlemen named Buttery, lived at 260 high street, one was a chain maker, nail maker,  etc, the other a tobacconist. I have 1881,1885, 1894, 1895, 1899, 1901 and 1903  trade directory for that part of the high street,  but I need now to pin down this Davidson  ???
then it would be correct that the shop with the big horseshoe is the Buttery family,      still with me  ??? Eilleen.

Just to quote from a book of mine ...

Opened in May 1911, the Lincoln Theatre, later re-named the Grand Electric Cinema was Lincoln's first purpose built picture house.  This mid 18th century building at the top of High St, formerly Garmston House, (at one time the residence of Albert Wingfield HALL, Mayor of Lincoln from 1893-95) formed the entrance to the new auditorium which extended as far as Hungate.

There is nothing on the photo that resembles either of your shops.

Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

I have a feeling , that Davidson, ( the shop ) is going to be after 1903,  which mean's hours more ,spent in the libary on my day off, looking through directory's.   Eilleen.
