Help!! Trying to trace a relative...

Hello all:  I wonder if you can help me.  My Mom and I are trying to track down my Great-Great Grandfather's brother who we know died somewhere in South Africa.  His name was John Davies.  He was born in Trefilan, Cardiganshire Wales on Nov 15, 1864.  We know he was a Tailor by trade and moved to London in the 1870s.  He is last listed on the 1881 Census, living in Marylebone, London.  We assume to emigrated during that decade since we cannot find him after that.   It is believed that he never married.  We believe he became involved in the mines and died sometime in the 1920s.  I have done a quick search on NAARS, but have only found one entry for a death in 1912, too early we think...   

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated!

There is another John Davies born 1864/5 born in Trefilan who was also a tailor but remained in Trefilan certainly until 1881 living with his father Job???
