the McAsey family from county carlow c 1800's
« on: Wednesday 11 July 07 02:37 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out about my McAsey/ Mackessey/ Mackesy family  (other ways to spell surname too) who came from Ballyellin area Co Carlow c 1800's.
Namely Michael / Mick McAsey / Mackessey etc. who married Mary Doolan. They had 6 chn I think -  my gr gr  grandmother Margaret McAsey being 1 of them. it is thought Margaret was born c 1809-1815  in Kilkenny. Margaret married matthew Kelly c 1840 &  they came to Australia in 1841.
Info on the McAsey family would be much appreciated.
Thanks :)

I  have an Elizabeth McAssey born 1770, probably in Carlow though the family was supposedly from Wexford originally. She married a Byrne in 1791 and they had children in Carlow town.

Another variant I have is M'GESSIE.
