CAHILL, Joseph m MURPHY Mary Jane
« on: Sunday 15 July 07 01:48 BST (UK) »
Family legend has my g-father Joseph C from Down/Armagh (Poss Newry) m Mary Jane M of Down (poss Ballynahinch)
The Murphy's moved to Whitehaven Cumberland about 1876.
England census 1881 & 1891 have
Robert Murphy abt 1855   Ireland   Head
Elizth Murphy    abt 1851   Ireland   Wife
Lizzie       abt 1875   Ireland   Daughter
Sarah Hannah   abt 1877   Whitehaven, Daughter
Robt Henry   abt 1878   Whitehaven, Son
Mary Jane   abt 1880   Whitehaven, Son
Martha Js   abt 1884   Whitehaven, Daughter
Ebenezer   abt 1885   Whitehaven, Son
Wilfred       abt 1888   Whitehaven, Son
John James   abt 1890   Whitehaven, Son
There is no record of the family in 1901, so appear to have returned to Ireland after 1893 (death of Ebenezer).
I have a possible marriage of Mary Jane to Joseph Cahill about 1907 in Co Down and in 1912 I have a Mary Jane C at 6 Erin Street Belfast and Elizabeth and Dorothea??? M at 21 Erin street. Also Wilfred & Mrs Mary E M at 6 River Terrace and Robert, Sara and John James M at 78 River Terrace. At 84 River Terrace I find Joseph Cahill with Mrs Eliza Ann Mehary???.
I have family correspondence confirming the connection with 78 River terrace, but the others are more unsure.
Any additional info or confirmation will be much appreciated.

Thanks, Bally..
I had seen those, but was hoping for additional confirmation before spending my hard earned pounds.
I must say that Emeraldancestors appear to be a good investment. (Unlike some others which charge a fat fee for a certificate or copy for an item which is bound to be for an unrelated person)
Have any of our posters any comments on their service?

Hi Eric,

Do know much about the other Cahill's in Joseph's family?
My great-grandmother's maiden name was Cahill - her first name was Ellen and she was born approximately 1863.   On a wedding certificate I recently obtained, I have discovered that the names of Ellen's parents were Jeremiah Cahill and Norah Cahill (nee: Sullivan)    but this is all I know of her family (other than that they potentially came from the Cork or Kerry areas)....
I would be really interested if you had any of these names in your tree...

Kind regards,

Danielle James.
