Hi, am trying to find out more about George W. Lawson who married my aunt Vera Jenkins in 1943.  George was air engineer on Stirling III BK665 of 90 Sqn, lost on night of 22-23 Jun 1943 on operation to Mulheim.

Just some background info from "The Bomber Command War Diaries":

557 aircraft took part; including 93 Stirlings.  35 aircraft lost; including 11 Stirlings.   Post-war British Bombing Survey Unit estimated that the raid destroyed 64% of Mulheim.

George's service records might still be available to next of kin (cost £30 unless widow) from RAF PMA, RAF Innsworth, Gloucester  GL3 1EZ;  my father recently bought his brother's record.  Not a great deal left but interesting to see where he was posted etc.

Many thanks for your prompt replies and for the information - I see that some of the crew members survived and wonder where I can get in touch with them.  I do have a photo of George at his wedding to my auntie Vera in early 43 at Whitchurch, Cardiff.  I do not know where he was from but will write to RAF.

Hi,

My father had served with 90 Squadron and a few years ago there was still a Squadron Association. I would suggest a post on the general queries message board at:

www.rafcommands.com
Steve Smith (aka Smudger) who uses that forum has 90 Squadron as one of his interests and may be able to tell you further info and also whether the Squadron Association is still going. Unfortunately I do not have the info to hand at the moment and know that I am unlikely to have time to sort it out for at least a couple of weeks. Frank Haslam has a website which lists all the Squadron Associations he is aware of and their contact details :

http://www.associations.rafinfo.org.uk/royal-air-forces-register-of-associations.htm

Regards,

Ann
