TREWYN ??
« on: Tuesday 17 July 07 22:26 BST (UK) »
I have a Margaret DAVIES, bapt  Llanelidan Nov 24, 1763, d/o David & Elizabeth, abode is Trewyn.  Have not been able to find a marriage for this couple in the Llanelidan register.   Does anyone know where Trewyn is?

The only reference I found after googling was a Trewyn farm near Corwen.

Hello again Heather,

Just checked a british isles map and there is a Tre-wyn in Monmouthshire. Don't know if that helps at all.

Hi Mandy

Thanks for the suggestion.  I had seen the Monmouthshire Tre-wyn but the puzzling thing is that there also seems to have been a connection with another place by that name in Denbighshire as well.  Perhaps it is one of those places that moved counties?

TREWYN- CORWEN LOOKUP?
« Reply #3 on: Wednesday 18 July 07 20:39 BST (UK) »
I've found a Pentretrewyn on the ordnance survey map which is about 8 km from Llanelidan, close to Corwen.    Does anyone have access to the Corwen PRs for early 1760s?  If so, I would be really grateful for a marriage lookup up re David DAVIES and Elizabeth.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi

I've checked Corwen, Gwyddelwern, Bryn Eglwys, Llangollen and Glyndyfrydwy but nothing  :(

I've also checked the Welsh Marriage Bonds at the Nat Library. Maybe they might have married in  Derwen or one of the Penllyn Parishes around Bala Lake. Otherwise, it could be a missing record for some reason or a patronymic form  :-\

Hi Gadget

Thank you VERY much for checking them out for me.  Another set of mysteries to ponder - I will add them to my list ::)    Never mind - I've knocked down a couple of longstanding brickwalls recently and can't be too greedy :)

That's interesting - by 1881 a branch of my family were living there - John and Winifred Powell (nee Lloyd) and their family.
The farm is just north of Rhyd y Meudwy which is just east of Llanelidan. You can find it on present day maps using the post code LL15 2ST.
Good luck

Thank you David

I've since found the marriage of David DAVIES and Elizabeth WYNNE to Clocaenog, Feb 11, 1763.   The witnesses were Robert POWELL and Ellis POWELL, who I believe were Elizabeth's cousins.

How far back have you traced your POWELLs??  Elizabeth WYNNE's grandmother was a Margaret POWELL (1681-1742), daughter of Elis POWELL and Anne SALISBURY, who were married in Clocaenog in 1679.
