Hi Julie,
Can't help you with the census I'm afraid but had a look on the Sussex Marriage Index for a marriage and this is the ONLY one for a Francis Cobby (No Frank Cobby)
Do you think this might be his father?  Strange that the bride's name is also Charlotte.
Hope I haven't opened a can of worms for you ;)
Jane

Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Slindon, West Sussex,  Date: 16 Dec 1806:
Subject: Francis COBBY, Yapton
Spouse: Charlotte ROUT
Extra Information: BT

PS.  BT means it's from the Bishop's Transcripts rather than the parish registers.

Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Researching BRABY/BRAVERY in SURREY and SUSSEX

PLEASE use the look-up requests page not a personal message.

Hello Jane
;D LOL yes that is Francis(frank ) Cobby's mother and father.
Francis 1811 married Charlotte Rowe But i have no details of Charlotte apart from her surname .
Frank has seemed to Board at  members of his families homes since 1871 and an earlier census may have shed some light as to what happened to Charlotte, also age ,where born etc.
Their sons John and Luke where born 1845/1847 in Yapton.
Maybe time to order a certificate :)
Thankyou for your Help
Julie

Hi Julie

Unfortunately, Bersted is in West Sussex, and I have very little or no information on that part of the county other than the 1841 census.

Will check that after dinner this evening

Hi Julie

Found this info on Bersted as it no longer appears on my maps

Bersted (North & South)
The twin villages, sadly now bear little of the original character, having been swallowed up by the expanding suburbs of Bognor Regis. At one time South Bersted was the original village of Bognor. Back in the 1780s a wealthy hatter from Southwark, Sir Richard Hotham, bought a farm there and started to re -develop the area. He is buried at South Bersted, his scheme cost him some £60,000, but he failed to change the name Bognor to Hothampton.

According to records, it comes under Aldwick, Chichester in West Sussex HO107/ 1099/

As there is no index to the 1841, I have slowly scrolled through the 106 pages for South Bersted - but did not spot anyone with the Cobby Surname - Will have a look through North Bersted in a moment.

Hi Julie
Have you come across a George Cobby Cannings born c1863 in Lurgashall in your research?
He was illegitimate and is proving very elusive.   He is in Horsham in 1901.   I am assuming his middle name is a clue to paternity!

Hi Julie have you come across a James Cobby born about 1815 in Sussex (not sure where)?  His father was John Cobby.

All the best
