can anyone identify this uniform please?
« on: Friday 20 July 07 10:32 BST (UK) »
Hi, this "mystery" photo was found amongst my great uncle's effects after his death. There is no writing on the back of it. It doesn't look British to me! (But then, I'm no expert!! - that's why I'm asking you clever folks!!)

Any ideas? Thanks!!
Best wishes, Judy :-))

It is a Naval uniform, but what country? Certainly not UK.

Possibly, Russian, Polish, Italian or even Greek. A close scan of high resolution with the belt buckle may help.

Hello Salty!!

Thanks for your comments. Unfortunately I can't change the resolution as it is a photo that was emailed to me. I have another photo that I think may be of the same chap, but you can see less of his uniform. Here it is anyway, in case it gives you any clues.
Cheers!!!  :)

Hiya,

Not a clue on the uniform, but the base of the tree, the base of the wall and the toe of his boots seems to suggest snow?

Chat soon.

Hi GreenwoJ

Welcome to Rootchat  :)Hope you have as much fun at here as I have!

Good comments about the snow! Never noticed before. I think that Salty was on the right track when he said Eastern European, but how my great uncle would know an Easter European sailor - the mind boggles!!!

Thanks for your comments!  ::)

There are two other possibilities now that I have seen the hat, French or Dutch.

But I am just putting forward possibilities.

As well as the cap he is wearing. It is definitely a cold weather cap.  Not to mention he is wearing an undershirt in the first pic as compared to the second pic
