Smiths(!) in Chislehurst
« on: Friday 20 July 07 12:38 BST (UK) »
Hi  I wonder if I could ask for some help from people with access to Kent records?  William George Smith & Caroline (nee Johnson) are registered in C91 at Red Hill Chislehurst along with daughters Elsie (b 1882ish) and Amy (b 1884ish).  I can't find a trace of the girls after this -could anyone help, please?

In C01 William's widowed mother, Susan, is also in Chislehurst along with her lodger, Mr Habibi a Turkish carpet dealer.  Is there any trace of him in trade directories, I wonder?

Did you have any success with this or are you still looking?

No luck at all so I'm still looking.  I can't even find them in the censuses- I'm using FindMyPast now (rather than Ancestry) so I'm probably doing somthing mindless.

I'd be grateful for any pointers anyone could give me...

Elsie Gertrude SMITH dau of William George and Caroline Sarah baptised St Luke Hackney 7 Jan 1883 (born 6 Jun 1881) of Elderfield Road, a joiner.  Amy Evelyn (born 9 Nov 1882) was baptised the same day.

There is a marriage Elsie Gertrude SMITH to Matthew Nelson NEWBOULD 1909 Bromley registration district ................ they are in the 1911 census (she born Hackney) use advanced search to find NEWBOULD living with (other person in household) Matthew Nelson NEWBOULD http://www.1911census.co.uk/ .  She doesn't show up as born Clapton but she does show up as born Hackney.

Amy Eveline SMITH married (I think) Frank Sidney LAW 1906 Bromley registration district.  In the 1911 census there is a Amy Eveline LAW born Clapton showing in the free index ............... they could well be the ones you want.

Wow! That was fast -thank you so much.  I'd beaten my head against the floor trying to trace those girls.  Nice to know they grew up & now I can try & discover what happened next.
All best & thanks again

Your welcome!  Incidentally, it looks like they could both be in Rye Lane, Camberwell for the 1901 census working for drapers (both born Clapton).
