Workhouse 1869
« on: Tuesday 24 July 07 19:50 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone help.
Just got a birth certificate which gives Workhouse 1869 as where born.  Also Reg.District Manchester in District of Market Street, Manchester.  Signature of mother says, Mother, Workhouse, New (Near) Bridge Street, Manchester in the County of Lancaster.
Anyone ideas of which Workhouse?     Also if Christened (R.C.) which church area would they be in - or would they have  minister on site?

Thanks Jo
I am pretty sure his father was called John as well.    It is not on the birth cert. I got today in Manchester (though not too sure if it is the correct one)   There is a Bridget and John(11)  (son) on the 1881 census. but on John's (2nd) marriage church record it is stated  - parents John and Bridget.
I must admit this record looks interesting - except for the father!!!
There was talk in the family that John was in a home??? at sometime.
New Bridge St. seems to have joined  with  Crumpsall at some time.

Hi Helkar

Mmmm !
Now if theres no fathers name on the birth certificate, then there was no father ( well there was at one time  ::) ), I wonder then if Bridget married John, after young John was born and John Snr brought him up as his own or they did like mine did and had their kids before they married to make things more confusing for me ! lol
