Hi Trapper,

I see Ellen is very consistant after marriage with a birth of 1853 Bishopstone, yet I cannot see anyone fitting the description in the 1861 and 1871 census. Bishopstone is reg district of Highworth (maybe Swindon as they later united) I have checked the images for 1851 - 1854 and don't see an Ellen or even a Helen listed in the correct district. I think It would pay you to get the marriage certificate and hope a fathers name may help us to proceed here.

Lewis LAWES = Ellen FORD Sep 1/4 1871 Alderbury 5a 299

She is only about 18 so wouldn't think it a second marriage.

Looks like a tricky one with the consistency of the  81,91, and 1901 entries yet nothing to match in 1861 or 71  :-\

Cheers Kris  :D

Could she have been registered as Caroline which I am led to believe maybe the C. (Ellen. C) I had exactly the same problem could find no trace of her before her marriage.

I didn't try C names in the images but no female listed in the right area showing on FreeBMD either. I wondered if names may have been inverted also. I think the marriage cert is the way to go here and just hope there is a father listed. Sorry I couldn't be more help....Kris  :D

Hang on I just found her in 1871 trouble is she is a servant. I went looking in Coome Bissett since that is where Lewis is and they marry later that year  ;)

RG10/1950 Folio 66 Page 18
Street
Coombe Bissett

PUINAGER  John Head 39 Mar b Box Farmers Son
PUINAGER  Sophia Wife 45 Mar b Coombe Bissett
PUINAGER  Christopher B Son 1 b Cooombe Bissett
FORD Ellen Servant 19 Unwed b Bishopstone General Servant
HIBBERD Henrietta Servant 12 b Bishopstone Nursemaid

I wondered if it may be important that Henrietta was also born Bishopstone yet so far I don't see her in 1861 either  :-\

Could she have been an orphan along with Henrietta ?
