Mystery Photo - WW1? Convalescent Hospital?
« on: Friday 27 July 07 15:27 BST (UK) »
Hi, here is another "mystery photo" from my great uncle's collection. It looks like it may be a convalesent hospital, but I wondered if anyone could identify the uniforms that most of them are wearing?

Thanks a lot! Judy
Best wishes, Judy :-))

Hello Judy,

The men are wearing what was known as Hospital blues. These were jacket and trousers in a light blue cloth and the jacket had a white lining (as can be seen on some of the lapels). A white shirt and red tie finished the outfit off. Soldiers would wear their own caps with regimental cap badges as per normal. Within this group you have members from the R.A., R.E (I think), Fusiliers, Light Infantry, Manchesters, and a couple of Scots wearing their Tam's.

Stonking pic! (again!!)

Red Cross Nurses, and the Sisiter/Matron appears to have a red Tippet, but no QAIMNS or TANS medal...Unabale to see rear so can't make out the Alexander rose to rear if indeed (which I doubt) she has one...
