Henry MOSS Calne Wiltshire
« on: Saturday 28 July 07 00:01 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me please i am trying to get back as far as i can with my husbands side of the family so far i have got back to G  Grandparents.  In the 1901 Census for Calne Wiltshire i have them as
Henry Moss age 39 Boot, shoe maker
Agness Moss 40
Violet Moss 11
Edward Arthur 7  (Grandfather)
Albert victor 3
living in either Mill or Mile Street.
Can anyone help me go back further with the names of either parents of Henry or maiden name and parent of Agnes and family I want to try and get back as far as possible as we think that the family either originate from Scotland or Wales but maybe neither.  We think that there could be a surname King amongst this part of the family maybe Agnes maiden name as my father in law jokes he is the Kings G G Grandson lol. Any help in helping me solve this would be very much appreciated or could someone please tell me how i go about finding out myself i am very new to this and am using credits up like know ones business and going down the wrong tracks. :-[
many thanks
Dee

You can search 1881 for free at LDS or Ancestry

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

You will also find the IGI (international Genealogy Index) is free on the above site

1881 finds Henry with his family. His parents both appear to be Wiltshire Born.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01s6/

I don't see Agnes Moss. She may have been previously married, or have been living with Henry and already using the name so a fathers name is needed here. You can order the cert for £7 from

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Henry Herbert MOSS b Dec 1/4 1861 Persey 5a 130

and this looks like parents marriage

Thomas MOSS = Mary BROOKS Sep 1/4 1855 Pewsey 5a 267

a good site for finding BMDs although not complete is

http://www.freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Have a good look around the beginners Links and the resources attached to each county, and feel free to make as many requests as you like. So many RootsChatters out there are keen to help............Kris  :D

Hi, if you don,t mind me asking what is your husbands name?
I only ask as i think we have the same family history.
My dad was given a family tree done some time ago and list all the same people as you are looking for.

Looking at the tree Agnes (b1861) had the parents of Jeremiah and Emma and henry(b1861) had the parents of thomas and Mary (thomas married again in 1894 to Ann silversmith) but I'm sure Agnes and henry both share the same grandparents William and Mary(eyeless).
If you need any more info let me know and i will see if i can help.

Hi Karen
Moderator Comment: Personal Information removed for security reasons. Please pass on personal information via PM Thank You and if it turns out we have the same family tree that would be great.  As i only decided to go down my husbands side of the family just over a week ago as i was putting my tree together obviously Alans family came into it.  His dad was quiet interested with the information i had managed to find out as i dont think he knows much about his family roots he is now 75 and didnt seem to be that interested when i told him what i was doing but if we are related it would be great to be able to show him that he does still have some living relatives along the line because as far as he knows he is the only one, he often says he is the Kings great great grandson, and we can only assume that there was somewhere along the line a surname King but have yet to uncover it and he wont give us any clues but knowing him he is winding us up as he is a good one at sending us up lol.  I hope this information is of some help to you and if you want to know more about us or want to share any of your family history please do keep in contact.  You are the first person to actually contact me asking if we have connections from both sides of our families and would be good to have something to show for it, if that makes sense.
Best wishes
Dee

Hi Dee,
I seem to be having trouble finding them on the tree i have, but it was done a long time ago so many people might have been missed from it. I quite sure your husband and me are from the same side of the tree because my great-great grandfather was Charles Frederick moss (b1857) he was henry moss's brother.
Charles Frederick moss (m Emily Scarlett in 1879) had two children Albert Edward (my great grandfather) and Edith Emily , Albert had 4 children Reginald, Eva, Hubert and Leslie, who was my grandfather.

If your husband's father could name any brother or sisters or parents i might be abel to find them, i think my tree is a bit wrong in places as henry's daughter violet Lilly is the daughter of a Sarah Hannah, Agnes's sister (hope that makes sense !) and i cant find her brother either.
