adoptions? COMPLETE
« on: Tuesday 31 July 07 00:11 BST (UK) »
Hello rootschatters! Altho I am not new to researching my family, this is the first time I have encountered an ADOPTION in my family.  Since I am "across the pond" I need to know are adoption records sealed in the UK? Does it vary from County to County?  If the child were adopted around the years 1859-1861 what are the chances of finding her biological parents? Any input on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Pat

Hi again Pat

There was no formal adoption until 1927. See this thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,233403.0.html

Arrangements would be informal - family members, etc.

Hello Gadget! Thank you. I had suspected this might be so....Since I know her legal name and birth year, I'll troll the civil birth certs.  ;D  Pat
