My cousin has a sash which belonged, probably, to our Grandfather, Christopher LANCASTER (born in Leighton Buzzard) or his wife Margaret PERYER. They were Quakers, married in the Friends Meeting House, Hammersmith, where Margaret's father Michael was caretaker. They lived in Mimosa Street, Fulham.
The sash is embroidered with the following :
"Rehabits Salford Unity. Past Chief Ruler. Peace and Plenty, the reward of temperance"
Does anyone know what it all means?! When and why did the Quakers give this to someone? I know my Grandparents didn't drink (except for medicinal purposes

)..... so I suppose it was some sort of "reward" for this! What is a Past Chief Ruler?
Does anyone have anything similar?
Many thanks for any information.
Hilary
