St Paul Baptism abt 1758 - LONG/HALL * completed*
« on: Tuesday 31 July 07 19:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for the baptisms of William Long and Elizabeth Hall.

They married in St Cuthbert's in 1779.  The first child was baptised in St Mary and the next two in St Johns.

But the parents baptism records are not in St Mary's, St Peters or St Johns.

Any help with this parish record (or Elstow - not in Elstow - please see note below)- would be very gratefully received.

Thanks

Harrynon

Was there any additional detail in the marriage entry eg parish of residence?

Hi,

I was looking at transcripts and the 'Groom St Mary's' was added.

I do not know much about Bedford at this time, and was hoping they had not strayed far.

Harry

I think there are bits of background on this couple - look up Widow Long [her husband was dead by early 1830s?] in the Beds Archives [search: ''blars adlib''] and she was in receipt of charity.

If Elizabeth was still alive in 1851 [unlikely] the census would give us her place of birth?   Have you found their burials yet?  St Mary's & St John's churches are so close to each other...burials often give age [not always correct] at time of death.

Please let me know as I will look for burials in case it helps if you do not have them?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  I have been side tracked by relatives in Rushden.

Thanks for the Bedford Archives reference - very useful.  I think I am going to have to find time to go back to the burial records for the three parishes St Mary's, St Peters and St Johns.  If you have access to St Pauls I would be grateful for any help.  The last child was born in 1797.

I have just looked at the IGI again and a William Long baptism for Streatley in 1757 is now showing.  This is on the A6 near Luton.  Maybe this could be him?

Thanks

It could be, Harry, although Bedford is a bit of a step from Streatley.

I will look for LONG burials in Bedford [St Paul's or St Peter's, or St Mary's, or St John's - after 1797 - & these churches are near each other] next week and and hopefully a burial will give an age at time of death which may help?

HI,

Please just look at St Pauls - as I can get access to the other three  and I am sure you will have research of your own to do.

Thanks
