Dear Ricky

All I know is that there were three brothers - all Amos -
John b.1858, Charles b 1869 and George b 1871 and it may be one of those.  Therefore I think it would be about 1870 to 1900. He could just have been hung in the gaol - but we think he murdered a warder with a shovel.

Anything you can point me to will help.

Thanks

I can't see a man with the surname Amos Hung in England in the time period you are interested in

http://uk.geocities.com/becky62655@btinternet.com/1868.html

This looks to be a possibility for the family

1871 census RG10 3329 folio 44
Marsh Road Gedney Lincolnshire
William Amos 36  Sutton Bridge Lincolnshire Head Married Ag lab
Susan Amos 34  Walton Norfolk Wife Married
John Amos 13  Long Sutton Lincolnshire Son (William on the 1861 census)
John F Amos 12 Long Sutton Lincolnshire Son (Frederick on the 1861 census)
Elizabeth Amos 9  Long Sutton Lincolnshire Daughter
Charlotte Amos 5 Long Sutton Lincolnshire Daughter
Charles H Amos 2  Gedney Lincolnshire Son
George Amos 2 months  Gedney Lincolnshire Son

The only adult male AMOS death registered in Lincoln was a Henry AMOS in 1868 aged 47.
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

George was with his brother John Frederick on the 1891 census in Derbyshire. John was married with a family. Both men were iron miners. John was still there in 1901.
Charles Henry was a mechanic with his family in Wortley Yorkshire in 1901.

Hi Ricky/Valda and Geoffe
Many thanks for your input to my husbands family.
The John Frederick was my husbands Grandfather and I know he died in 1950 in
Derbyshire.  The rest of the family is a mystery to me and everyone concerned are now dead.
The one in Wortley I think was the one who joined the Salvation Army, but as I am not sure it is very time consuming and I am busy with my own family, so I will put it on hold for the time being.Very many thanks for all your efforts.

Tudor Rose.
