Sidney Reygate
« on: Saturday 11 August 07 15:13 BST (UK) »
Sidney Reygate emigrated to Canada in 1904 aged 19. He signed up for 49th Canadian Infantry ( Alberta Regiment) in 1915.

Sidney was killed in France 30/10/1917. :(

Does anyone have any information on his life in Canada from 1904 till 1915. He signed up in Calgary and said he was a farmer. It would be nice to fill in the gaps.He did not marry.
Thanks for any help :)
Carol

I have found Sidney on the 1911 census  in Kootenaya, British Columbia. He is single, a farmer in lodgings.

Does anyone have info for this area at this time.
Carol :)

Some information on where he stayed in Kootenay, B.C.

Golden

If the occupation that I read as Engine Cleaner is correct, possibly he worked either in one of the mines, or possibly on a Riverboat.

Hi Janice
 Thanks for your messages.  :)

I did have some of the information but not the name of the ship. I will look through the ships records to find Sidney.

Its sad that he emigrated  to Canada in 1904 for a new life but ended up killed in 1917 in France. Not much of a new start was it? :(
 Cheers Carol

Here are some books from Our Roots. They are free to read online. Some will give you an idea of where he stayed, and one talks about him and his uncle.

But here is a little bit more.  ;)

Did you know you can order his full military file?  If not, here is a link that will show you how. You might find alot more information from that, and possibly a photograph.

He also applied for a Land Grant. Here is the link.
