Whitchurch baptism - Elizabeth DUKE
« on: Tuesday 14 August 07 17:01 BST (UK) »
There's a member submitted entry on the IGI for Elizabeth Duke.

It says she was baptised 2 August 1702, Whitchurch, Oxfordshire
Father Abraham Duke
Mother Mary or Marie Gutteridge.

I don't trust it! Can anyone confirm please?

Hi Anne,

On this occasion, it's to be trusted!

The entry is -

Aug 2 1702 Duck  Elizabeth d. Abraham & Mary

There's also:

Apr 6 1691 Mary Duke d/o Abraham & Mary
Jan 23 1692/3 Joane    "          "
Oct 12 1696 Richard s/o    "             "

And, as it's Elizabeth you're interested in, the only other Duke/Duck baptism in Whitchurch is

Feb 17 1723/4 Elizabeth d/o Elizabeth.

Marriages are:

Aug 10 1690 Abraham Duke & Mary Guttridge by licence.

Feb 17 1723/4 Edward Tegg & Elizabeth Duke.

Interesting that she appears to have married on the same day as giving birth!!

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.
