Aaargh!
« on: Wednesday 15 December 04 21:32 GMT (UK) »
I just needed to rant before I go loopy  :P

Having spent a number of years chasing round in circles after my grandmothers family, dealing with
  • a surname that changed its spelling very regularly
  • an illegitimate child who I don't even think could decide what his name was
  • everyone calling their children the same set of names, resulting in more Isaac's than I can count!

I now find out that my great grandparents were first cousins  :o - now that would really mess up my wallchart!

Mind you....it probably explains a few things about my family  ::)

Okay - rant over - I'm feeling better now!

Isn't there a saying something like 'a trouble shared is a trouble halved'!

By the way, have you tried to put the great grandparents relationship, i.e. cousins, into your computer programme yet?   You might feel another rant coming on!

Good Luck,

Jill, Julie,

Sharing ancestors needn't be a problem for a computer. I use Brother's Keeper6 specifically as my ancestors are very incestuous!!! Not something to be too proud of!  ;)

If you have any problems send me a PM.

Geoff.

Thanks for your concerns.  I'm definitely feeling much calmer today  :)

Fortunately I've just started using 'Roots Magic' and it seems to have coped with it all (not even a 'are you sure about this' type message) which is more than can be said for me  ;)

Boy Jill...with all the craziness in my family...I won't be surprised if I find something like that in my tree. It would definatley explain a lot in my family tree. LOL   ::)

Hi

I have a case of Father/Daughter incest and although it goes onto the computer fine, it does look silly as all relations are doubled up.

I also have a case of cousins marrying on my wif's family tree and that looks silly too as all relations both up and down appear twice too.

Slight panic when I saw your posting Teddybear  :-\  So, I just tried getting my computer to draw out a tree with the 'kissing cousins' on it, and amazingly it didn't double everything up, but just put 'duplicate line' under one part. Yipee  ;D

Lucky you Julie!  Roots Magic sounds like a sensible programme to me!

I have the same problem as Teddy, except that my programme makes me choose which of the cousins to attach the descendants to, but then if I click on the other cousin all the descendants leap from one side of the page to the other!

Geoff,

I have tried your Brothers Keeper programme and have managed to import the gedcom into it, but as yet cannot seem to discover how to view or print the whole tree!   Maybe after Christmas I will have time to mess around with it!

Jill, Yeah, I found it a difficult one to sus out!
Printing to the screen is easy, but getting it to print out the right size is pretty tough, even for people with the mental age of the three year old child freely included!!!  ;)
