Marriage Newcastle upon Tyne - St Nicholas
« on: Saturday 18 August 07 23:53 BST (UK) »
Hi

Wonder if anyone can look at the following marriage for me or get me a copy of this as would like to know what info there is about this couple.

John Johnson marriage to Sarah Eangy 28 March 1830.

I have been trying to find the marriage of John and Sarah for a while and haven't had much luck because I have been looking for Sarah Earnshaw as this is the name that I have on the birth certificate of one of John and Sarahs children.  Thought that Eangy could actually be wrong.

But I am not so sure. I suppose I could have actually purchased the wrong certificate.  But everything fits.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciate.

Hello dustfairy, All I can add is that I can verify that the date and the spelling of the two persons is exactly the same in my marriage index for NBL. I am sorry that my St. Nicholas parish registers are not that recent; perhaps another Rootschatter may have a copy of that year.  FYI, interestingly, "your" Eangy is the only surname spelled that way in the entire British Isles IGI, so perhaps you are correct in questoning it. Looking at the original parish register would certaily help. Sorry i can't beof more assistance to you.   :'(  Pat

Hi Janette,

familyhistoryonline has the same marriage details, and no other records for anyone called Eangy so possibly a mistranscription from the register originally.

Thanks for the replies.

I did notice that Eangy - a strange surname as haven't heard of that one before was the only one I could also find.  No surnames of that on census.  So thought it was quite possible.  That it could in fact be earnshaw as stated on the birth certificate of their child.

Thanks anyway for the advice
