Mysterious Ancestor, Bellinger

Hi, I've searched everywhere I know (which I grant you isn't much) and this person doesn't appear to have lived/married/died anywhere, except for the fact that I have a photo of a headstone which is in Wilmslow, Cheshire.  I can't find any census, or BMD records............

The headstone says: Catherine Morgan Bellinger, b. Nov.27, 1845, d. April 4, 1916. Same headstone also says Margaret Jane Bellinger, d. Nov. 14/1926 aged 39 years.

Any help/suggestions very much appreciated.

Hi Iria, lovely name you have--and thank you--.......what does the reference to
"possible wife" mean?

My great-aunt was a Florence, born on July 2nd, year not known.  I do think you have the right family!

My main reason for this whole thing is to try to find out what Margaret Jane Bellinger died from at such a young age, and also when she was born. The only thing I've discovered is this: (from marriage index)

This isn't the right person, I don't think (could be in a pinch I suppose) because my mum was born in Oct. 1908. My Margaret Jane married William Henry Ireland......


If you can guide me to a site, even if I need to pay, I'd be grateful, and thank you so much for what you have already done. It gives me more places to try to search in. Arrgh, I should have tried Wales, Morgan is a Welsh name I think.

Thank you for your reply.

I was looking for a birth about 1887, given date/age of death.  I'm not sure this is the correct person, but it's also what I found. 1879 puts her at 47 at death, not 39, that's quite a difference, but perhaps that's the way it was w/recording then.

The main reason I'm doubting this is because my mum always told me she was about 19 when her mum (Margaret Jane) died.  My mum was born in 1908.  This fits almost perfectly with the death date of 1926.

Jane if you go to the http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/ and check the marriages you will find your M J Bellinger marriage to W H Ireland 1907, they married at St Phillip's Alderly Edge, (this comes under Macclesfield registration district) so puts them well into the Wilmslow area.

There are also in the Freebmd  details of two Catherine Morgan births in the Oct-Nov-Dec qtr of 1845 in Wales.

You really need the marriage certificate of

As found by Iria (it says possible because there are usually more than one marriage on a page so several male and female names)
This certificate will give you the details of Catherine's father.

In your case it seems to be the correct marriage.

The Margaret Jane Bellinger detailed on the headstone   should this be Margaret Jane Ireland (your grandmother) if she was married when she died ? Where did she live at the time of her death ?
