St Catherine's Index Query- Opinions?
« on: Thursday 16 December 04 10:32 GMT (UK) »
Just wondered what any of you have found regarding the accuracy of St Catherine's index. I recently applied for a certificate having found the groom on the index but not the bride. It was a gamble but it paid off. It was the right one! Just wondered if it is unusual..the bride was not on the index as far as any variation of spelling I could think of.
Has anyone else found this?

Thanks
Robyn

Hi

Have you checked the index now you have the certificate showing the spelling?

Just a thought.

Other question is:
Did you check the index on fiche/1837online , or did you solely use Freebmd?

Used 1837 online...I have found Free BDM is obviously subject to human error...just as the original St C's index surely is.

Some years ago I had a minor family mystery to solve. For that I needed to look at the GRO births index for my own surname. Whilst I was doing that I thought I'd look up my very own entry.  :oIT WASN'T THERE!!!!!
If I hadn't already got my own original birth certificate I might have thought that I was a ghost.
It's been squeezed in now but it does prove that mistakes are made
