1901 Lookup - William H Broxham
« on: Sunday 19 August 07 15:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Help needed in finding this couple on the 1901 Census.

I have found the marriage between William H BROXHAM b1866 Hull  & Ellen Atkinson ETHELL b1867 Seamer , 1893 at All Saints,Sculcoates.

It is known that William was living at 74 Edgar Street Hull on the 1881 census.

Ellen was at Lane House, Bradesburton on the 1891 census.

I take it you've already seen and discounted Wm K Broxham aged 36 - dock labourer - (right age) living in Barrel Ct off Edgar St.

His wife is Alice, aged 43.

RG13; piece 4505; Folio: 55; Page: 23.

Do you have the marriage cert for the couple?

I notice he was a fishman's apprentice on the 1881 Census so it could be a possibility he was at sea when the 1901 Census was taken.

It is so frustrating when this happens.

Hi Lesleyhannah,

The marriage info came from the free BDM, so will have to check again.

I notice he was a fishman's apprentice on the 1881 Census so it could be a possibility he was at sea when the 1901 Census was taken.

Hi Gill,

I would have thought that Ellen would be on the census,

I can't see William's parents either, they were living at 74 Edgar Street in 1881.

Hi Trevor,

I think I may have found them on the 1901 Census.  They are transcribed as Brotham although when you look at the image you can see it may be Broxham.  The only problem is that he is given as being born in Lincolnshire so it may not be the correct family.

1901 Census at Tilworth Grange, Sutton Without, Hull
William Brotham, marr, aged 35 & a coachman, born Langworth,Lincs
Ellen Brotham, marr, aged 34 born Seamer, Yorks
Frederick W Newbown, 9 months, nephew, born Barton on Humber, Lincs

Gill

P.S. Sorry, I don't think it is the correct family but strange how both Ellen's born in Seamer

Hi Gill,

Thanks again for your effort, as you say it doesn't look like them, all his brothers and sisters are down as born in HULL, but strange that the Ellen is born in Seamer.

HI again

Could Ellen A be Ellen Alice? In which case it could be the couple I found in Edgar Street?

Hi Lesley,

Sorry once again no it is Atkinson, it comes from her mother's maiden name.
