going great guns - what now??
« on: Monday 20 August 07 10:34 BST (UK) »
of my four branches, i have traced one in its entirety back to the the very early 1800's

I have even managed to work out how to locate some deaths too to obtain those certificates - by looking through the censuses to work out which decade they appeared to dissappear (for want of a better word)

So what do i do now??

where's the best place to search prior to formal registrations??

Any help gratefully received

Hallo, Humbug

Two useful search sites to start off are:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true
http://www.familysearch.org/

If you know the relevant parish try:
http://www.freereg.org.uk/

Rootschat has a "useful links" section:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,289.0.html

If you need a local person to hunt records all you have to do is post a message here giving the details you have and what you need to find out.

Good hunting
Philip

You don't say what your areas of (geographical) interest are, but assuming your research is centred in England & Wales you might well find www.familyhistoryonline.net to be useful.  It's a pay site, but has a great deal of excellent pre- civil registration content including baptisms, marriage licences/PR entries, burials and MIs.  Content varies tremendously across the various counties.

Hope that helps
