Hi Pat

There is a birth on the Free BMD site for a Louisa :-

MOGRIDGE Louisa September Quarter 1855 Totnes ( which includes Diptford ) 5b 168

On the 1861 Census there is a Louisa in the same district, born about 1856, living with parents Henry and Elizabeth, siblings John, George, Ann and Harry.  Father's occupation was Ag Lab.

I can look further on Census for you if you think that this may be your Louisa.

Cheers
Karenlee

Many thanks for doing this, I have a  contact who insist she is 1861 but I can find no trace of this Louisa at all.

I think 1856 sounds more likey

Hi,

I can see these births (misspelt on Ancestry as MUGFIDGE), looks like twins  :)

Emily MUGRIDGE  Sep Q  1861  Totnes  v.5b  p.178

Louisa MUGRIDGE  Sep Q  1861  Totnes  v.5b  p.178

This looks like the girls in 1871,

RG10/2095  f.91  p.7  Totnes
Totnes Union Workhouse

Harriet MUGRIDGE  Pauper  Unm  39                 Diptford
Emily MUGRIDGE         "               9  Scholar      Totnes Devon
Louisa MUGRIDGE       "                9  Scholar      Totnes Devon
Jessie MUGRIDGE        "               3                  Totnes Devon

It looks like Harriet gets married,

Marriage
Harriet MUGRIDGE  Dec Q 1880  Totnes  v.5b  p.349
Thomas TOZER with same details.

1881  RG11/2179  f.42  p.7  Rattery, Devon
The Village

Thomas TOZER  Head of family  married  62  Farm Labourer  Staverton Devon
Harriet TOZER                 Wife  married  52                       North Huish Devon
Jessie MODGRIDGE    daughter               13                       Totnes Devon

A possibility for Louisa in 1881,

1881  RG11/2374  f.27  p.5  Bridgewater, Somerset
St Mary St

Louisa MOGRIDGE  Serv  Unm  21  Assistant Domestic Serv  Devon Dittisham

In the household of Mary E SEALY.

Ooh :) I think I can see some more, I will post again when I've typed it up :)

Regards
Daisy

Hi again,

There is this marriage, coincidence or relative of Thomas :-\

Louisa MOGRIDGE  Dec Q  1882  Totnes  v.5b  p.365
John TOZER with same details.

This looks like them in 1891,

1891  RG12/1714  f.34  p.4  Rattery Devon
Yelland

John TOZER  41  Agricultural Labourer    Devon Rattery
Louisa         29                                     "  "    Totnes
Emily            7  Scholar
John             6  Scholar
Thomas        4
Alfred           2
William         4ms                 All children born Devon Rattery

This is the only John TOZER born abt 1850 Rattery I can see in 1851 and 1861,

1851  HO107/1874  f.540  p.18  Rattery, Devon
Spurt? Hill

Thomas TOZER   Head  Mar  32  Ag Lab             Devonshire Staverton
Susanna             Wife  Mar  42  Ag Labs wife        "  "    Rattery
William               Son           4  At home              "  "       "  "
John                   Son           1                            "  "       "  "
Ellen     Mother-in-law    W  87   Pauper              "  "  Buckfastleigh

1861  RG9/1421  f.42  p.4  Rattery, Devon
Village

Thomas TOZER  Head  Mar  43  Ag Lab    Devon Staverton
Elizabeth           Wife  Mar  30                   "  "    Ashburton
John                   Son         11   Scholar
Mary                   Daur         6   Scholar
George                Son          5   Scholar
Elizabeth            Daur          3                  All children born Devon Rattery

So is this the same family with a new wife for Thomas, and is it the same Thomas who later marries Harriet  ???

More importantly does this mean John TOZER married his step-sister Louisa MOGRIDGE :-\

Daisy

Many thanks, I have recently found my Louisa who is a cousin of the one you found. Unfortunately all the ' ladies ' of this family didn't seem to be bothered re getting married at all.

Babies willy nilly all of the place.!!!!!

Or maybe a serial rapist, my mate at work thinks it's the Vicar to get more bisiness...
