Elsie Annie Green Completed
« on: Monday 20 August 07 22:59 BST (UK) »
I have a problem to solve reguarding my grandmother.Born Elsie Annie Green 1892.I know in 1917 she married a Albert John Brown in Kingsbury Warwickshire who then died very soon afterwards. She then married my grandad Charles Edwin Mansell in 1918 Shustoke Warwickshire.I have the marriage certificates. Both marriages gives her father as Jonah Green. There is a family of Greens 1901 census living in Coleshill Head Jonah with a daughter Elsie born Kiddlington which is Oxford so I got a birth certificate of an Elsie Green born 1892 registered Woodstock which gives the DoB as 21/2/1892 father Jonah. My dad and his sister swear her birthday was Jan 21st and they always thought she was born near Birmingham. How could I find out from the marriages which I know are right where she was born.Billy

Hi Billy

I did a search on FreeBMD and found an Elsie Annie GREEN born 1893 Birmingham.  The details are :-

GREEN Elsie Annie Birmingham June Quarter 1893 6d 91.

I then went to the 1901 Census but couldn't find an Elsie born 1893 ish to a Jonah in Warwickshire.

I think, given the evidence, that you have the right Elsie despite your relatives saying her birth was Jan not Feb.  It is highly likely that Elsie herself may not have been too sure of the month.  The birth certificate is more likely to be right I am afraid.

Cheers
Karenlee

Yes thankyou Jane and Karen.May have to come to the conclusion my gran told them the wrong date.I have a tree made up with the other members of the family in Kiddlington even that Jonah's father and mother also all his siblings including stepmother stepsister and stepbrother and nephews and neices just wasn't a hundred per cent sure I had the right Elsie. Her birth certificate says her mum's maiden name was Ann Wheeler the family in Coleshill 1901 showed Jonah's wife as Ann so I know it is the same family moved from Kiddlington and the right birth certificate for that Elsie. It is the only Green family living in that area at the time.I have found someone on Genes Reunited with Jonah's father Joseph in their tree but cant get them to reply to me after trying twice in a month. My father says his family used to visit an aunt Tilley in Rowington Warwickshire when he was a child and its funny because Jonah's step mum was Eliza Tilley and his stepbrother was called John Tilley Green.Billy
