Hi Babsjane

1861 and 1881  there is a Pub called The Wheat Sheaf that is run by a William Cox
On the 1861 there is another pub called The Crown, neither of these appear on the 1871. although William Cox is an ag lab on the 1871

So there might be a small chance that Frederick might have been the innkeeper of The Wheat Sheaf

You might find the village inns (along with the name of the innkeeper) in an historical diectory.

Innkeeper seems to have often been combined with another occupation. One of my ancestors was a builder and publican, another was farmer and publican. I guess the wives probably played a big part in running the pubs . . .  ::)

I have the 1869 Post Office Directory for Northants on CD purchased from archivecdbooks

It has
George BLEEK farmer and beer retailer
John BLEEK farmer

Mentions one pub, The Crown, publican Henry WESTON

No mention of Lewin Henry or Frederic

hi
George Bleek was Lewin and Frederic's father and john was their uncle thats interesting.  Marilyn, please could you tell me,  does it say an address of where George was a farmer and beer retailer in 1869.  On census  returns there is never an address just schedule no.s.  Thats why i would really like to know if there is a name to the inn that Frederic kept in 1871 as some of the pubs are still there to this day and one day when not working !! would like to go down and  visit  and see where the farm is or maybe have a glass of pop in the same pub if  anyone knows it .  thanks everyone !! :D :D

A beer seller could only sell beer & cider whereas a public house could also sell wines and spirits.
