RIPLEY Methodist Church
« on: Saturday 25 August 07 09:04 BST (UK) »
Kia Ora
Greetings from New Zealand

Can anyone tell me how I would get copies of Marriage entries from the Register of the Methodist Church in Ripley> 1892 - 1920 if possible?

Where would the Register be held?

I'd appreciate any advice!

Hi Marlene,

Not sure where the Register might be held but the church does have a website:

www.ripleymethodist.co.uk

Perhaps an email to them would give you some info.  Failing that you could always buy copies of the marriage certificates from the GRO.

Happy hunting,

Hi Nanny Jan
Thanks! I have written to the Church _ the editor had no idea where the Register was!
My greatgran emigrated to NZ in 1878 and I have tracked 2,900 of her family members - ain't won the Lottery (yet! ;D) so cannot afford all the Certs.
And I like to get as close to original info as I can and generally the Certs mean there's yet more room for error!
Thanks for the thought!

Hi Marlene,

I'm amazed that the Minister does not know where the Registers are!

Have you contacted the Derbyshire County Record Office to see if they know? You could try www.methodist-central-hall.org.uk if all else fails.

2,900 family members tracked..........I'm impressed!

Kia Ora Nanny Jan!
Must admit I got lucky with 3 - managed to find living descendants and we swapped certs! I had the older ones hatched , matched & despatched 1800s and they filled in with what had happened after the 1901 census.

I don't think the Minister/Vicar was consulted I got the reply from the Editor maybe I'll try again addressing it to the Boss!
Thanks
Marlene

Hello Marlene,

I've just looked at the online catalogue at the DRO in Matlock and it looks as though they have the registers - http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/Images/NonConformistGuide_tcm2-42780.pdf

They will be able to search and supply a copy of the relevant record for a fee.

All the best,
John

Many thanks John! I did find that site last night but just as with yours it flicks over too quickly! I can briefly a see PDF file but it's momentary!
I'll go back to the Derbyshire site and send a letter - I'm sure someone will pass it on!
Grateful for your confirmation!
Thanks
Marlene

Hi Marlene,

This is copied and pasted from the web site. It is pdf and I think I've lost the formatting, but hopefully you can still make sense of it.

All the best,
John

Kia Ora John
Thank you very much indeed!  :-* I think I'll start with the Nottingham Rd chapel. A few of the family lived nearby or in Wood St but that appears to have closed by the time frame I want 1892- 1920. I guess that's the logical place anyway!
Fingers crossed they will give me copies!
Cheers
Marlene
