Uniform ID if possible?
« on: Sunday 26 August 07 19:28 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Due to a parents split and the recent death of my father I have little knowledge of his family. All the family photos that were notated with names, dates & places were destroyed by his last ex-wife. The photograph attached is my grandfather.  All I know about him is that he went to Kenya ~1938 (I remember seeing a photo of him on a ship passing through Suez Canal marked with that date). The photo scanned by my father is names "Major Bryson.jpg"

Any help or info very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't help with the uniform (sorry), but have you thought about getting hold of a copy of the Army List for that period of time?  It would give his service number and regiment.

I would think so.  Possibly in this one:

Alternatively, try this route:

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hello bryson,

You should be able to track his commissions through the London Gazette. Not knowing his christian names or age, to be able to limit it down, I got over 200 hits for the surname between 1920 and 1940.

Try starting from here:

Thanks very much for your help. Looking through the given links now.

All of all websites I've used I'm quite taken aback at how helpful members are on here from the posts I've seen. Thanks again.  For the record full name is John (Archibald) Bryson b. 1909/10 Glasgow.

Have you thought of looking on the 1911 census which is now available ?   As he would have been a baby then, he will be listed with his parents ... which should give you a start on your fathers family ...
