marriage look up PLEASE HELP
« on: Tuesday 28 August 07 05:37 BST (UK) »
Would someone be able to check a marriage for me Between-\
George Longshaw and Jane Hiken. 1845  St. Marys  Astbury

I am trying to establish if Jane had two names Ann being the other name.
The name of George is correct however I have her as Ann Ikin/ Hikin/Hiken.
The date and place of the marriage would be correct too!!

Hi Glenys,

I can see your problem - having just checked the census returns?
According to FreeBMD .. ..

Marriage, Sept, 1845
George Longshaw
Jane Hikin
Congleton, Vol.19, page 83

I know it's a long shot but have you considered Jane could have died before 1851 and George remarried?

Kind regards,

Pels

Hi Glenys - I did a multi-region search on UKBMD and found two George Longshaw marriages
HIKEN Jane 1845 Astbury, St Mary Cheshire
WILLIAMS Ann 1848 Wolstanton, St Margaret Staffordshire Newcastle-Under-Lyme

Presumably there are either two George Longshaws or something happened to Jane? Perhaps the second marriage certificate would help if you can't find a second census entry in 1851.

Hello again Glenys

Here are the details you wanted for the marriage between George Longshaw and Jane Hikin:

George Longshaw, minor, bachelor, collier, of Odd Rode, son of the late George Longshaw, collier, and Jane Hikin, minor, spinster, of Odd Rode, daughter of Charles Hikin, shoemaker.

Marriage dated 20 July 1845, and after the calling of banns.  Present at the ceremony were Samuel Scragg and S. Cartlidge.
