Will send information via instant message. The entry I have found does not have a father by that name, but he is the only entry of that age range & he is born in Cardiff.

Hi Jan,

Well I nearly choked on my sandwich !  I didnt expect a reply so soon, thank you very very much.

The info I had was taken from  Johns Marriage Certificate in 1868, he was a Merchant Seaman and married in Hull.   I will have to look to see if I can find a birth certificate now.

What with my Griffins and Davies, arent I blessed !!! :'(

Once again thank you and Seasons Greetings.

LYNN

Perhaps the census entries are not your ancestors, but remember that sometimes people used their middle names. My G-Grandfather named his father as John Colbert on his marriage certificate, but his name was Patrick. I have also found workhouse entries for both the names John and Patrick so I think he used the 2 names (depending on his mood!)

Merry Christmas and hope you find more information soon!, If you think I will be able to help you any further let me know  ;)

Hi Jen,

I made a mistake about a so called first name before, simply thats because all the family knew him by that name,  halfway through my research I thought something was amiss, finally find a gro ref for certificate, sent away for it, of course I had been researching wrong family, because everyone called and knew him as Richard, proper name Benjamin !!  that was nine months research down the drain !!!

I will dwell on your info over xmas then decide what to do.

Bi and Thank you.
