Samuel GAMMONS of Thurleigh
« on: Wednesday 29 August 07 21:07 BST (UK) »
Just off on another tangent.  There is a Samuel Gammons b 1793 at Thurleigh who, I think, is son of George Gammons & Mary Measures.  He married a Frances / Fanny b 1795; some censuses say Thurleigh, others say Fillgine ? ? Bucks ?

I'd like to get a marriage date & her family name please.

Is anyone researching the Gammons of Thurleigh. I have a number who married into the ARMSTRONGS of that parish, & a few of them to my PARTRIDGE family. Let me know.

Regards John P

Thanks Angie,  I had not seen this - but I know Kate Gower as one of my contacts via Genes Reunited
+ forget about pursuing the Armstrong connection, it's been discussed to death... see http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,230898.msg1230046.html#msg1230046

Hi John

No marriage in BVRI I'm afraid, in either Beds or Bucks (or anywhere else in the country for that matter)

Sorry!

From the 1861 census, it says Faney was born in Fillgine, Bucks but that doesn't exist - it could be Filgrave ? historically Tyringham-cum-Filgrave & now part of Milton Keynes borough. Could someone please check the image.

RG9/986  Folio: 65  Page: 8

On 1851 census Fanny is born Thurleigh, & on 1841 she is NOT born in county (of Beds)

Samuel & Fanny's earliest child (on 1841 census) James was born 1821 Ravensden.

JohnP -

These two links might be relevant!

http://vcp.e2bn.org/prisoners/2991-1-samuel-gammons.html

http://vcp.e2bn.org/prisoners/2772-1-samuel-gammons.html

Age is right for the first offence, (IGI gives baptism as 30 Jun 1793 in Thurleigh, son of George & Mary) and place of residence in Ravensden would tie in with the occasional birthplace of his eldest recorded child in the census returns.

I've checked Boyds and Pallot's - nothing.

One has to wonder, with his record, whether he and Frances married at all?

Most likely a red herring, but living in Scald End Thurleigh in all 1841 - 1871 census is a Hugh Partridge, widower, born 1793/1796 Filgrave, Bucks, while Samuel & Frances Gammons were in Park End Thurleigh.

So are you thinking that Frances may have been a Partridge, sister of Hugh?

I don't like coincidences!
