Lost - Thomas Salley death lookup Please

I am looking for my lost great grandfather.

I have searched and searched and cannot find where and when he died.   As I need his death to find his parents.   Any help, much appreciated.

I need a lookup for NSW or Victoria.

Here's what I know about him.

Thomas Salley born about 1820

I have come across many variations in the surname
Sally, Salley, Sallis, Sallary, Sallee, Solly, Sully.

1841 Ann Sally (wife) age 22 and Thomas Sally (husband) age 21 arrived at Port Phillip,  Australia on the ship Lysander (Reel 2144) British immigrants.

Ann & Thomas lived in Melbourne from 1841
then to Geelong 1849 and Ballarat 1859
these dates are from birth of their children.

Thomas' wife Ann, Anne or Annie
maiden name is McCafferty is buried in Ballarat 1893.

There is a marriage for their son Thomas Salley in 1865 in Deniliquin, NSW.
Wondering if Thomas followed his son to NSW.

Any help would be great as I am at a frustrating brick wall.

Do you have Ann's death certificate - does it say if she was a widow or married?  Who was the informant?

Have you checked her burial plot details with Ballarat cemetery to see if her husband is buried with her?

I checked deaths in Victoria without finding him
NSW are free online so you can have a look yourself.

Where was he born?  and where did they say that they married? as an English marriage would give his father's name and occupation.   The parents given at death are only as good as the knowledge of the informant.  It is possible that clues to parentage might be had from the children's names- if they conformed to the naming patterns of the time.

I agree with Christine that the death certificate for Ann could be helpful.

There is a death in Victoria 1874 for a Thomas Sallis born Nott (Nottingham?) age 62 father unknown
Would give a birth date of about 1812 - probably incorrect but vaguely possible

have you  thought about getting one of  the childrens birth certificate the 1859 would be the best as  the others are early baptism records I  think

the information contained on the birth certificate

Date and place of birth; name of child and whether present or not; name of parents (including mother's maiden name); occupation of parents; ages and birthplace of parents; date and place of marriage of parents; previous children of their marriage noting living or deceased; signature, description and address of the person who gave the information; names of witnesses; date and place of registation.

so in theory it should at leat tell you  where and when they were married

I've already checked Ann's grave, her husband is not there,
he is not any where else in the Ballarat Cemetery either. 

I don't know where Thomas was born.

I checked the shipping records, but their nationality was totally unreadable

Ann was born in Dublin, Ireland.

I have got Ann's death cert, somewhere, I can't put my hand on it at present.

I've already looked up the NSW free online, more than once,  but I was hoping someone else could look for another opinion, in case I have over looked it.

Same thing with Victorian deaths, I have searched registers, numerous times, again can't come up with anything,  hoping someone else might have ideas what I can do next.

Needless to say after 13 years, I am frustrated and out of ideas.

Thanks for your response.

According to BDM web site 2007

Their daughter Mary's 1859 birth certificate is only an index in the file, Victorian BDM Office does not have an original certificate.

I didn't go ahead and order the certificate, as the web site was saying it was only an index.   Would I be correct in thinking that there won't be usually information, as it is only an index file.

Do you think I should order the cert anyway and see what comes.

now  Mary Jane Salley  married a Jones and there is some detail in  this book   
might be helpfull to you Greenemma  also  maybe more than what is in  the"blurb"

Hi Trish, 

Thanks for the information.
I came across this death in 1874.  But I didn't think is was the same person
as my Thomas according to his age on the ship, would have been born around 1820.  But who knows, they did sometimes lie about their age for various reasons.
