Jack Newly Richie
« on: Tuesday 04 September 07 09:20 BST (UK) »
Over several years I have been looking for the birth of Jack Newly Richie according to his death certificate he was born in Bingley in 1887.

From his marriage info it said his parents were Jack Richie and Isabella Newly. I've looked under every variation of each name. I'm now looking at the possibility that perhaps his mother remarried and Richie was not his birth name.

I did manage a quick visit to Bradford, Wakefield and Bingley during the summer this year but unfortunately Keighley was closed.

One thing I've not looked at is school records - do they exist ?

Any idea's welcome.

No sorry I don't  but assuming she was born about 1864 (+/- 10)

The information for Isabella came from his act of marriage in Canada this was in 1925 he came to Scotland the same year and died in England in 1971, his death certificate is were his birth details came from.

We believe he may have had a sister other than that we have no idea of his life pre marriage.

first of all i think we need to locate him on the 1891 census (i do not have access to this one) then we can look for Isabella before this to see if it was her first marriage.
do you have Isabellas marriage to Jack Richie?

:'( I have access 2nd year of ancestry.co.uk subscription also have full access until January for http://www.findmypast.com/

Assuming Jack could be John or James or William and so on still can't  pinpoint him. There was a family of Richey's where mother remarried and became Mrs Hall her first name was Alice - she had a daughter Isabella Richey they lived in Bingley but were born in Liverpool.

There is also a Jack Richardson born in a different part of Yorkshire ---- he might be the next cert I send for ---- even although his parents names don't match.

When I went to Wakefield I looked up the Electoral Roll for Bingle around about his time of birth but could not find any Richie.

The closest birth registration I can see on FreeBMD is:

John RITCHIE, Dec 1884, Bradford Yorks, vol 9b page 8

Given that ages on death certificates are not always accurate you really need to get a fix on the family in the 1891 or 1901 census.

All the best
Philip

Thanks Philip

That's one of the ones I have. On the certificate nothing matches. I questioned the date of birth with one of his daughters as there was about 13 years different between him and his wife, she said she thought there was only about ten difference between her mum and dad. So assuming the date on the cert. may be have been miss read. 1887 could have been 1881 1884 1887 or 1889 - or anything.

Well, it was worth a try.

Do you know when John's birthday was? - if we know the month it would help narrow down the relevant quarter if not the year - this could eliminate some of the possibles.

On his death certificate, it said he was born on the 23 November 1887 in Bingley Yorks.

Every thing is worth trying. thanks for the help.
