McCallum & Darroch/Darrock
« on: Wednesday 05 September 07 12:01 BST (UK) »
 ???  ???

Hi
I have a James Darroch married to Ann/Agnes McKay/Mackay (spelt a combinaton of both)

On the census records they are living in Southend Argyllshire.....until today I assumed James was born in Scotland, but after studying the records more it states birth place Ireland......I have found a marriage on the scotland peoples site I think for them in 1806 at Southend Argyllshire....his name is spelt as Darrack and her first name is down as Naney.....

Is there any way I can find out where he actually came from?

Would it tell me on the marriage record?

If there are any others looking for this surname, please get intouch...

Hi Cissy

James only showed Ireland in all the censuses between 1841-61 which is a pity. Unlikely that the OPR entry for the marriage would show his birth place in Ireland but as always with OPR entries, you don't know until you look whether any additional info was included.

Going by his death entry in 1863 in Southend, his mother's maiden name is showing so it should hopefully include both his parents' names which could help you research in Ireland:

1863   DARRACH   JAMES   O'HARA       M   80   SOUTHEND   /ARGYLL   532/00 0011

Darroch is a relative unusual surname, only 78 entries show up on IGI for Ireland (mostly in Antrim and Londonderry).

Regards.

Monica

Hi Monica

I had a look for his death and found as you he died in 1863...on the death register both his parents are named as William Darroch & Mary O'Hara, obviously  both deceased...

His marriage on the OPR didn't state place of birth....

I've had nothing from my tree for ages and in the past few days been inundated with info on 2 sides LOL...

Thanks for your time
