Marriage Look-up for George and Sarah Marshall between 1891 - 1901
« on: Thursday 06 September 07 17:56 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for info on a marriage between George Marshall (son of James) born 1865 in Manea, and a Sarah ______? They were most likely married in North Witchford between 1891 & 1901 as they are living there in 1901 census.

Thank you

P.S: I am also trying to find out if they had any children after 1901?

any good - not far from where you said ? The two couples who you need to permutate are shown - and theres only 1 Sarah ....

This is the scope of Wisbech District .... http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/wisbech.html

Marriages Jun 1896

Evans  Evan    Wisbech
Garner  Sarah Ann     Wisbech  Vol 3b Page 1201
Marshall  George      Wisbech  do do
Teed  Alice Jane     Wisbech

Children will be more difficult - it wasnt till late 1911/12 that Mothers maiden names are shown in the Birth entries .... so you'd have to have a way to eliminate wrong 'uns .... somehow    ???

Have you checked http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl for the marriage? You'll need to buy the certificate for extra detail, although you'll be able to get Sarah's surname

Same site for births but with a common name like Marshall and as parents names are not shown (at least not until 1911 when the mother's maiden surname was added to the index) it could be an expensive business buying certificates to see if the parents were George and Sarah. Once you know Sarah's maiden name it's easier after 1911

PS. Just seen that there are 2 Georges in Manea (N. Witchford RD) in 1901.... the 1865* chap is married to a Hannah - tis an 1867 chap married to Sarah ... who says she is born Manea, which would thus be strange to marry in Wisbech District.

May just be the oft-used Census PoB shortcut of course.

There is a Sarah Garner in 1891 Wisbech born 1877, whose Dad is a Mole Catcher  ;)

Is your man George Marshall shown as a Stoat Catcher in earlier years, as he was in 1901  ?

*As you were ! George and Hannah were already married in 1891, unlike your chap

Thanks for the quick responses.

My George is the one in Manea who is NOT married in 1891 (he is living with parents James and Emily).  I think he is listed as a Mole Catcher in 1901 but I don't know what his occup. is in 1891.  The marriage to Sarah in Wisbech is possible I suppose if she was from there.

I'll try that FreeBMD site to see if I can find any kids.....

Hi all  :)

In 1901, Sarah is shown as born Manea (I know you said it before, Newf - just confirming ;)
And George in 1891 is a Farmer's labourer

Strange! I opened the FreeBMD site from my bookmarks and cut and pasted the url. But I agree that clicking the link doesn't work. Opening my bookmark still opens up the same page on FreeBMD. I've changed it now!
