« on: Saturday 08 September 07 00:57 BST (UK) »
I am seeking an obituary for a  Fr Edward Scallon. Born abt 1907 Newcastle upon Tyne and died 1st August 1965 . Ref: Durham East Vol 1a page 324.

He was a Priest of the Diocese of Our Lady Star of The Sea, South Terrace. Horden co. Durham near the time of his death.

I'm hoping to find out where he was ordained and get an obituary for him.

Is this parish still in existence - any parishioners out there???

Hi telephonist

According to a Rootsweb query posted and answered last month:

http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CATHOLIC/2007-08/1187999779

"The Catholic Directory for 1935 states that he was ordained for the Diocese
of Hexham and Newcastle on 22 July 1934.  It does not give the place of
ordination, but there is a major seminary in this diocese - Ushaw College -
so this is the most likely. You could contact the Ushaw College Librarian "

And several avenues were suggested to contact the diocese etc for mor information on him?

Also have you seen this page:
http://www.norfolkbc.fsnet.co.uk/archive_collection/strips_farrow/le_paradis.htm
A bit of a "war time" biography on him from a nephew.

Cheers

I have now received a copy of Rev Ed Scallons obituary but unfortunately it never mentioned his family.
Thanks to all who helped with this enquiry.

Hello Michael, Thankyou for all your research.
Seems like I will need to get the birth cert of Rev Ed to find his mum! The Ann you mention (1905) is his sister known to the family as Nancy I'm told.
There are so many Stephen and Edward Scallons within this family.
Started when three cousins John, Edward and Stephen came out from Tyrone Ireland.
