The word Brent probably comes from 'Brigantia', the name of a Celtic goddess. It is the only Celtic place name in the Borough of Brent in North West London, most are Ango-Saxon. The River Brent divides two major parts of the Borough, Willesden and Wembley. In 1965 these two separate districts were joined to form the London Borough of Brent.

Kilburn, known as County Kilburn, is home to London's largest Irish community. Whilst a large number Irish immigrants arrived in the area in the mid-19th Century after the potato famine a site I looked at earlier today, I unfortunately omitted to make a note of the name, said many of the Irish in Kilburn in the nineteenth century did not arrive there as a result of the Famine but were in fact seasonal agricultural labourers and had been in the area prior to the Famine.
