Hi Jayne,

If you can post some details of possible dates, that would determine where you could start looking.

Scotland's People ( http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ) has the following records:

Marriages 1855-1931 (From the Statutory Registers)
Banns & Marriages 1553-1854 (From the OPR's)

It's a 'pay-per-view' site but you can download the images (which cost in the region of £1.25 each) and if the marriage was between 1855 and 1931, you'll get other information such as the place of marriage, ages of the bride and groom, details of both sets of parents, witnesses and the name of the person (e.g. the minister) who carried out the marriage ceremony.

If the marriage you are looking for was after 1931, then unfortunately you'd either have to visit Register House in Edinburgh yourself or have a researcher do it for you as more recent events are not online.

Anne
Thank you for that, I have found a possible marriage on IGA for 1874 but ironically cannot find it on the website you have mentioned.  And I need the certificate to verify this marriage. I know this marriage took place at St Ninians, Stirling in 1874.

Hi Jayne

If you can post the names of the couple you are looking for, people can help with the search for their marriage entry on Scotlands People.

Regards.

Noting that you have mentioned in other posts a Gregor BURGESS possibly born in Scotland, I am wondering whether the marriage you are referring to is the following from the IGI:
Gregor BURGESS m Janet McNeil BRAND, 18 Sept 1874, St Ninians, Stirlingshire.
They had a daughter Annie on 28 Dec 1874.

If it is that marriage, then it is on ScotlandsPeople.

Hi Jayne,

No, I do not have the reference numbers - to get those would require downloading (costs a credit) the result of the search.

Perhaps you misspelled parts of the names?

Even if, in the Statutory Register Marriages search, you enter only
- Burgess in the male surname box
- Brand in the female surname box
- leave the year range as 1855-1931
- don't specify a district
you still get just the 1 result.

Jayne, They are definitely there!  And, as I said, there's only the one marriage between a male BURGESS and a female BRAND in all the Statutory Register marriages on SP (and, as it happens, none at all in the OPR marriages).  I would not have expected such a combination to be so rare!
